A Good Life eBook Sarah Rowan Julie L Casey Reviews
A Good Life pulls you into the obscurity of living in the midwest. It follows the strange space that follows post-college grad early 20s. No character is left out to dry without context or depth. The tragedy that follows each character explains who they are and the choices they make. It all stirs together like cream and sugar, with an aftertaste of hazelnut. Like every good brew.
An excellent book concerning life. PTSD is faced not only by those who have been in the military, but also by those who have experienced trauma.
This book deals with real life and how some cope and some are not successful.
Coming out for some can cause trauma. A great read with great characters.
I stayed up long past bedtime to finish this book. As a lesbian of 52, having come of age in the bars, and the cocaine ridden eighties,I always hoped that generation that came after would learn from our tradgities of drugs and Aids and booze. It truly broke my heart to read such a beautifully tragic story of the upcoming generation. A beautifully told story of the senseless horror we put ourselves through to rationalize love. I look forward to following this painfully young writer in her exploration of growing. I am in fear of my heart though.
This is an upliftingly depressing book about the struggles of making it fresh out of college with (or without) degrees. It is also a look a people with undiagnosed mental health issues (like depression and post traumatic stress). The book is from the point of view of 4 different characters in the story, varying by chapter. All have their wounds, most carrying some sort of trauma from their childhood. All deal with it in different ways, and all intersect. My favorites character was Susan, who was the most relatable for me. Susan was probably the least damaged (kinda the balance of the group, though she did seem to enjoy hitting aggressive jerks in bars). Still, I felt she was the most compelling. Although I wasn't a fan of some of the bar scenes (it seems like the characters are always hit on by the worst examples of dudes in bars), I still found the book entertaining. I generally prefer books that are full of humor and brightness, but this one had a lot of, well, depressing topics. Still, the author managed to wrap in enough humor to keep me engaged. Natural conversations is where this author shines, as I felt her spots of dialogue were by far the most engaging parts.
Overall, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to friends. It's relatable and, well, upliftingly depressing.
This reads more as a screen play. It would make an OK indie film.
There are several mistakes throughout the book. I'm very big on spelling and grammar. The editor should have actually read this book.
There is a scene towards the end where Sam comes to Cool Beans to apologize to Susan, and also holds a flier for NA. It says that "Susan" reached in to her bag. It was Sam, not Susan, unless I'm completely mistaken.
This is definitely a book geared towards "hipsters", and as I am not a hipster, I kind of felt excluded even though I have experienced some of these situations, experiences and most of these feelings.
It was fairly good for the author's first novella. I'm sure great stuff will come from this author in the future.
This book is an amazing read for those who want a more serious plot that provokes deep thinking. Great read!
This book is a "I don't want to put it down, must keep reading" kind of book. It covers love, romance, heartache, mental health and LGBTQI. It is definitely a book I will read again. I applaud the author; well done!
Arrived on time and was great! A friend wrote this, very proud of her. Thanks!
