This became my "just one more page book". It was well written, entertaining with many different relationships going on. It was such an easy read. The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars was because there was so much detail put into small things or even repeats, but then some bigger things came in as almost an after thought at times. Like the author had an "oh crap, I forgot this" moment on a few occasions. Also, I felt the ending was not necessary. It has became commen place in this type of book and like the author had to make it like every other book. It just didn't fit and was not the way to end such a great book.

Lessons I Learned from Nick Nack eBook Padgett Gerler Reviews
This is a lovely book. In the beginning I became a little impatient with Rowdy's self- centered misery, but as the final crisis overtook her and the turnabout comes the pace picks up and the book begins to rock. A fantastic ending leaves one on a really high note. So read it and just be patient through Rowdy's struggles and you will be blessed abundantly!
PG has written a novel where a man and woman marry and the marriage fails. When the man leaves he leaves behind a dog that he apparently never liked. His ex wife has the dog and when she finds she has cancer she and the the dog form an inseparable partnership. This is an excellent read for the genre..... ER
This is a tale of hurt and recovery, so I guess some whining is par for the course, but for me it was a tad over par. And the protagonist's evolvement of her relationship with her dog was exceedingly slow for someone who needed someone. It was a quick read, but I found it less than satisfying.
Padgett Gerler's LESSONS I LEARNED FROM NICK NACK is the tale of Rowdy Murphy, a woman whose life begins to unravel in an alarming sequence of devastating events. She finds herself deserted, emotionally destroyed, and gravely ill. Her plight is compounded by possessing a dog she never wanted from the very beginning. But, in the end, the unwanted beast is the only thing in Rowdy's life that she can count on. Slowly, her relationship with the animal changes to one of unconditional love and respect.
I found the story riveting, and the characters believable. If there is one thing a woman should learn from this book Skip the husband and get a dog!
One of the best books I've read in a LONG time. Dogs are so much smarter than people think...I've been blessed with some great dogs in my 70+ years but the one I have right now is on a par with Nick Nack. Dogs are so intuitive and we can learn a great deal from them as Rowdy learned. I absolutely LOVED this book, cried and laughed with Rowdy, felt so sorry for Nick Nack at the beginning and was heart-broken towards the end of the book. Books should evoke all kinds of emotions and this one certainly did.
A very nice book. Rowdy's husband has left her and their daughter for a younger woman. Rowdy is stuck with a dog which she didn't want or like. But, once she finds out she has cancer, the dog becomes her best friend and really is the one who stands by her throughout. I wish the book did not have quite as much of her childhood background in it as I really liked the parts about her relationship with the dog, whose name by the way, is Nick Nack. As the owner through the years of several dogs, including one now, I know that they are very, very special. All dogs should have a good owner. A good book.
This book had my attention from the start. Losing your husband to a beautiful younger woman is hard but when you add finding out you have breast cancer is added to the equation it becomes unbearable but my new hero Rowdy managed to survive . Rowdy was left the dog that she didn't like. Rowdy soon learns that dogs are more than just animals.. I found this book to be great with believable characters and situations. This is a book that I laughed and cried through, it is one of the best books I have read in awhile. This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last.
This became my "just one more page book". It was well written, entertaining with many different relationships going on. It was such an easy read.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars was because there was so much detail put into small things or even repeats, but then some bigger things came in as almost an after thought at times.
