Firstly, this book has a few issues, that is a given. But, if you look past them, and delve into the stories and past of the characters, you'll find folk that are searching for a happier place in their lives. Everyone in this book has demons. Each of them are working thru them, either with a bottle, friends, work, counseling, or medication. This book centers around a woman trying to make her family run luncheon restaurant succeed. Setback after setback comes for her and we find her struggling on all facets of life. Romance comes into the equation as well. K. A. Jordan doesn't do the 'bodice ripping' romance, but it does its job for the storyline. This is more a primer on PTSD and what folks that weren't in NYC or DC felt and suffered thru during 9/11. It's not heavy handed nor preachy, but it will give a glimpse of life on the other side of the coin. Grab a copy, settle back, and let's do lunch.

liked it
I started to like this book, but a couple of chapters in I saw how repititious it is, and how many times the author used certain words - over and over. How many giggles and gasps do you need? The story line is decent, and as a foodie, I loved all the conversation about the vegetables, cooking, etc., and the author knows her stuff in that area. I liked Lindsay's relationships with her father and sister, and found them to be realistic characters with credible foibles. The plot's not bad although you can certainly see what's coming, and at one point I had to ask...how stupid is Lindsay? The book is in severe need of a good editor.
When I bought this based on the cover I was expecting a sweet little romantic story. I was so wrong, and in a good way.
Lindsey Bennett owns a restaurant that uses fresh products from her family farm. After a bad relationship she moves in with her sister and after losing all their savings their parents join them.Their father is a veteran of Vietnam and her sister's husband passed away on 9/11. The family helps each other through good and bad times.
When her cook at the restaurant needs to quit, Lindsey hires a new guy. One she may love but also hate. The tension between them is obvious. When he suggests a waitress he knows to help, that tension intensifies.
Her dad needs a helper on the farm and hires an ex-vet to help. This just makes Lindsey more confused as she has feelings for tis guy too. Which one will she pick?
I'm not a spoiler so I'll just say this book kept my interest throughout and I never would have guessed what was in store for me.
K.A. Jordan did a great job writing this book. I would have rated it 5 stars except for the formatting was off and it really impeded the reading of it.
There aren't many Women's Fiction books out there that have all the elements for me. This book does! Let's Do Lunch is a great romance, but it's also an interesting storyline filled with memorable characters. I was pulled in from the first page and found myself rooting for the characters right away. There are a couple of characters you love to hate, so that means the author has done a great job with them. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
Full of humour, well written, and great girly reading.
Excellent characterization with very good dialogue, although the farming information was very detailed and maybe a little long-winded, which slowed down the flow of the story. There were a few minor typographical errors, but not an abundance. I did like the information about the organic food and the recipes Lindsey created, it actually inspired me to cook! I thought the characters and the family dynamics were very realistic and all the supporting characters were well developed. I was surprised that Lindsey had so much trouble asserting herself since she was a business owner, but her character slowly developed throughout the story and I was able to identify with her struggles, self-doubt, and hopes. Tag's tortured past was heartbreaking as he struggled to live with the aftermath of the war. The relationship between him and Lindsey was very well done.
Let's Do Lunch is a story I greatly enjoyed. Set in my hometown it was easy to picture the restaurants downtown location. The characters and family dynamics were believable as were the main characters hopes and dreams. Just as in real life, not everyone turns out to be who they present themselves to be. I recommend this book, and want to read more from this author.
